Permanent Residency Permit

The Permanent Residency Permit is available to foreign nationals who have established significant ties to Mauritius, whether through long-term residence, substantial investment, or family connection.

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum 20 years of continuous residence in Mauritius, OR
Holding an Occupation Permit for at least 3 years, OR
A qualifying investment (minimum USD 500,000 in specified sectors), OR
Marriage to a Mauritian citizen for at least 4 years
Valid passport
Police clearance certificate
Proof of ties to Mauritius

Application Process

Determine eligibility based on residence, investment, or family connection

Gather supporting documentation (residence history, investment evidence, or relationship proof)

Submit the Permanent Residency application to the Immigration Division

The application is reviewed and may require an interview

Upon approval, the permanent residency permit is issued

Copy of valid passport
Evidence of residence (historical permits, utility bills, tax returns)
OR investment documentation (company accounts, share certificates)
OR marriage certificate and supporting evidence
Police clearance certificate
Medical certificate (if required)
Proof of ties to Mauritius

Practical Considerations

Permanent residency does not confer citizenship
The permit may be revoked if the holder is absent from Mauritius for extended periods
Holders have most of the rights of citizens except voting
The application process may take several months
