Occupation Permit (Employee)
The Occupation Permit for employees is the primary route for foreign nationals seeking to work in Mauritius. It is issued by the Economic Development Board (EDB) and authorises the holder to work for a specific Mauritian employer in a defined role.
Eligibility Criteria
A valid employment contract with a registered Mauritian company
Minimum salary threshold (currently MUR 30,000 per month for non-citizens, higher thresholds apply for certain categories)
Relevant educational qualifications or professional experience
The employer must demonstrate that the position cannot reasonably be filled locally
Valid passport with at least 6 months remaining validity
Police clearance certificate from the country of residence
Application Process
1
The employer submits a request to the EDB with supporting documentation
2
The EDB reviews the application and may request additional information
3
Upon approval, an Occupation Permit is issued
4
The employee must register with the passport and immigration office
5
The permit is typically valid for up to 3 years and is renewable
Required Documents
•Completed application form
•Copy of valid passport
•Employment contract
•Educational certificates and qualifications
•Police clearance certificate
•Medical certificate (if required)
•Employer's business registration documents

Practical Considerations
